Lidl, now the 6th largest supermarket in the UK, have opened a new store in Penllergaer, Swansea. We worked with Adston Construction to design and integrate the three living walls, which are on the side of the store.
Totalling 125m², the three living walls are visible as you approach the store from the road, making a strong visual impact. In fact, during installation, our team received plenty of comments on the planting, and how it improves the approach to the store.
Altogether, this involved 12,000 plants bedded in 6 tonnes of soil, capturing just over 16kg of dust every year. Through the process of photosynthesis, the plants will also produce 212kg of oxygen every year. Whilst the immediate impression is based on the aesthetics, the environmental benefits of these natural soil living walls are perhaps more impressive.
