Our MODULAR SYSTEM

Viritopia Living Wall System®

  • 80 plants per m²
  • Natural soil substrate
  • Pre-grown for density
  • Fire tested
  • 72-80kg per m² saturated
  • Irrigation included

The result of 18+ years of research and development, our modular living wall system is proven for large, small, and geometrically complex projects.

By planting in soil, the system supports a wide variety of plant species — allowing designers to maximise environmental benefits, create bespoke patterns, and use native plants that thrive in the local climate. Modules can be pre-grown offsite, in order to arrive dense and established on installation day.

Offered in two materials

Polypropylene (plastic)

Manufactured in the UK and made from fire-retardant plastic, our fire-rated modules are the standard solution.

Stainless steel

The same proven living wall system, offered in a premium material for enhanced longevity and fire performance.

Natural substrate

Our living wall systems grow plants in soil-based substrate. Soil helps retain water and supports a wide variety of plants (enhancing biodiversity).

Modular design

The modules come together to create a seamless living wall of any shape or size. Our green wall system also works with curved walls and steep angles.

Built-in irrigation

We design and calibrate the irrigation to each living wall to optimise water use. Our irrigation systems are remotely monitored 24/7 to ensure performance.

Flexible divider panel

We designed these panels to slightly shift as plant roots expand. This supports larger species and helps plants grow stronger.

Our Wire & mesh systems

Climbing green wall systems

  • Lightweight
  • Vining plants
  • Minimal maintenance
  • Reduced irrigation needs
  • Grows over time

Climbing systems grow plants from the ground or in planters, using a wire structure to guide vines upward. They soften the building’s appearance, provide shade, and dampen sound. Climbing systems offer an alternative option when a modular living wall isn’t feasible. You can also use both systems in one project.

At Viritopia, we use a variety of climbing systems for green walls, including our wire mesh, traditional wires-and-climbers, and façade planters. We’ll help you choose what’s best for your project.

Viritopia Living Mesh System®

Our living mesh system is a metal grid that allows plants to grow both vertically and horizontally, providing fuller green coverage. It’s lighter, more cost effective, and faster to install than traditional wires. It comes in 200+ colours to blend in with your façade.

OUR GREEN ROOF SYSTEMS

Viritopia Modular Green Roof System®

  • Pre-grown, no planting
  • Quick installation
  • Fire tested
  • Low maintenance
  • Customisation available
  • Protective layer included

Our sedum green roof system is a simple, no-fuss green roofing solution for a range of projects including commercial buildings, data centres, car parks, industrial developments, and more. We supply the trays pre-grown, so they arrive ready to be installed by your roofing contractor. The system is FLL-compliant and includes a 12-month warranty.

We offer two module options — Classic and Lite — to fit the needs of your project. The sedum blend is also customisable to best support your local climate and planning requirements.

Ideal for most projects, optimal water buffering capacity
  • Substrate depth: 80mm
  • Saturated weight: 83kg/m²
  • Water buffering: 30l/m²
Lighter modules for projects with load constraints
  • Substrate depth: 50mm
  • Saturated weight: 58.3kg/m²
  • Water buffering: 21l/m²

Are these systems available for independent procurement?

The Viritopia Living Wall System and Viritopia Living Mesh System are exclusively supplied to and installed by our authorised partners. Reach out to explore partnership opportunities.

GrufeKit by Viritopia is available to consumers who wish to add a green roof to their home. We supply the Viritopia Modular Green Roof System to be installed by roofing contractors for commercial projects.

Which system(s) fit our budget?

Costs depend on your project's size, goals, plant or sedum palette, and the tray material (where applicable). We offer a wide range of options so you can choose a green infrastructure solution that fits within your budget. Let’s talk about what might be feasible for your project.

What are the hidden costs?

Every green infrastructure system requires some level of maintenance to ensure product longevity, fire safety, and insurance compliance. The level of upkeep varies by system: sedum roofs, for example, need less maintenance than a living wall. Our maintenance plans cover the labor, irrigation system, fertiliser and other supplies, modules, mesh, and plant replacement as specified in our contract. We offer detailed estimates upfront so there are no hidden fees.

Can we combine these systems?

Yes — and for many projects, we recommend it. Pairing a living wall with a green roof can maximise your site's overall environmental impact. You can also use different types of living wall systems (like our modular system and living mesh) within the same project.

Should I specify a modular or climbing green wall system?

It depends on the project’s objectives, your desired aesthetic, and the building’s structure and weight capacity. You can also use a combined approach for your scheme. We’ll help you compare living wall options and choose the right solution(s) for your goals.

What are the fire ratings of Viritopia’s living wall systems?

The polypropylene (plastic) Viritopia Living Wall System has been assessed in accordance with EN 13501-1 and is expected to achieve a reaction to fire classification of B-s2, d0. The stainless steel variant has completed fire testing with Trimo (EI 120) and has achieved a rating of A2 (non-combustible).

Due to the nature of living wall systems, this classification is based on a combination of testing and engineering assessment and should be verified against project-specific fire test documentation, available on request.

Our climbing living wall systems are not considered a part of the façade and are instead treated as attachments to the building, which do not require a fire rating.

For more information about fire safety, reach out to enquiries@viritopia.com with the subject line: "Living Wall System Fire Report request.”

Can Viritopia’s green wall systems work with curved lines and angles?

Yes, we can facet our modular living wall system around curves. We also offer half-modules and corner modules to better fit your wall. To see what our system can achieve, check out our work on the Museum of The Future.
