Project Background

This premium data centre based in Frankfurt has been planted with over 50,000 plants. The plant palette includes several beneficial species improving the air quality whilst providing a great solution for an aesthetically pleasing façade.

Project Drivers

  • Biodiversity
  • Aesthetics

Project Highlights

  • Installed on a freestanding steel frame.
  • Diverse plant palette across all four elevations
  • Architect – Arup.
  • Contractor – Winthrop.

Process

First-fix – Steel frame installation

An auxiliary subframe was installed to support the weight and fixing points of the living wall system.

Once the steel frame was installed, the living wall modules were brought onsite for installation.

Second Fix – modules installation

These living wall modules were pre-grown offsite to maturation, at a nursery over 6-12 weeks.

This time allows the plants to acclimatise, develop a strong root system and produce foliage that ensures that we get instant coverage from the day the installation is completed.
